♟️ Triggerfish Tuesday – Pizza, Pawns & Mama Queen Adventures
Triggerfish Tuesday started off looking suspiciously quiet — the kind of quiet where you wonder if everyone accidentally went to the wrong restaurant.
Luckily Sven spotted Alex waiting eagerly, which immediately lifted his spirits. After last week’s emotional trauma of nobody wanting to play him (apparently being too good at chess is a social problem), Sven was delighted to have his favorite student ready for action. Alex happily dove into game after game, analyzing every move, asking about tournament stories, and generally reminding Sven why teaching chess is actually quite fun. Sometimes even Sven needs a break from the exhausting routine of… crushing people.
Then Charlie and Tian arrived, and in classic Charlie fashion he immediately dragged Tian outside for the Traditional Outdoor Board™. The weather was warm enough that Tian didn’t protest too loudly, and soon they were deep in battle under the open sky.
Meanwhile Naomi played a few games inside before stepping outside for some air — and discovered something remarkable:
Two very familiar chess players sitting there happily eating pizza.
These were players who hadn’t been around in a while… and somehow they had arrived early and completely missed the fact that chess had already started. Despite Charlie and Tian literally walking past them with a chessboard, they remained blissfully unaware that a full chess club was operating just meters away.
Naturally Naomi did the only sensible thing.
She lured them inside (pizza included) and introduced them to Sven.
The games that followed were intense and hilarious, filled with commentary, tactical chaos, and several dramatic moments involving “Mama Queen” boldly marching into enemy territory where she probably didn’t belong. Naomi also joined the action, and the games turned into the kind of scrappy battles where everyone is calculating furiously and laughing at the same time.
By the end of the night, what had started as a quiet Tuesday had turned into a lively evening of chess, commentary, and pizza-fueled tactics.
And hopefully those pizza-powered players will return next week — preferably after noticing that chess is actually happening.
