Triggerfish Tuesday – Heatwaves & Nowhere to Hide
This past Triggerfish Tuesday was not just hot… it was swelteringly, question-your-life-choices hot.
Normally, Charlie enjoys his peaceful outdoor chess sessions (and cigarettes), safely separated from the chaos inside. The rest of us stay indoors like sensible humans.
But this week?
It was too hot inside.
So everyone migrated outside… including Sven.
Which meant Charlie’s usual escape plan completely collapsed.
No walls. No distance. No excuses.
He couldn’t dodge Sven anymore.
Things went about as expected. After being thoroughly crushed, Charlie was finally “saved” by Tian’s arrival, which immediately redirected the chaos.
What followed were epic battles filled with blunders, brilliance, and enthusiastic swearing, as Tian and Charlie went at it in proper Triggerfish fashion.
Meanwhile, Naomi attempted to cope with the heat in the only logical way:
Beer.
Actually… two beers (because happy hour demands commitment).
Frederik made a rare appearance and bravely challenged a slightly tipsy Naomi. Realizing that rapidly downing a beer in that heat might not have been her strongest preparation, she generously handed her second beer to Frederik — a bold and clearly scientific move.
Frederik accepted.
And then proceeded to drink it like he had unlimited time on the clock.
By the end of game two, he was still calmly sipping — not even halfway through — while Naomi’s position had deteriorated far faster than his beverage level. The “beer gambit” had officially failed.
With a scoff, Naomi passed Frederik over to Tian, where the swearing resumed immediately and the games remained just as chaotic.
The night carried on like this — heat, laughter, questionable decisions — until it became so dark outside that players were essentially playing chess by memory and optimism.
At that point, even the most committed among us admitted defeat…
not on the board, but to the lighting conditions.
😆 Summary
- 🔥 Too hot inside… so everyone suffered outside instead.
- 🚬 Charlie lost his greatest weapon: distance from Sven.
- ♟️ Sven crushed first, asked questions never.
- 🛟 Tian arrived and “rescued” Charlie (by creating new chaos).
- 🍺 Naomi deployed the double beer strategy (unsuccessfully).
- 🐢 Frederik proved slow sipping > fast blundering.
- 🤬 Tian delivered top-tier games and commentary.
- 🌙 Chess continued until seeing the board became optional.
Lesson of the evening:
You can run from Sven…
but if it’s hot enough, he’ll come find you anyway. ♟️🔥
