Mzansi Juniors Swap Chessboards for Serving Trays

On Wednesday, our Mzansi players lined up at Waterstone Indigo Spur, buzzing with excitement for their very first “waitering job.” Manager Juan Pierre welcomed everyone warmly and paired each child with a dedicated waiter. Parents and supporters grabbed their seats — and keep your eyes on this space, because when the HCC exco ladies sit together, plans start happening. We’ve got big things coming next year.

A special welcome as well to Simone, officially appointed as club secretary right then and there.

Back to the kids — they absolutely thrived. Orders were taken with careful attention, drinks were balanced and carried with laser focus, and tables were wiped down with pure enthusiasm. The Spur waiters were fantastic with the little ones. Jared, in particular, became an instant favourite, teaching half of the triplets exactly how many tables the restaurant has and explaining the sacred art of constant handwashing.

Even some of the boys, who originally just wanted to play chess, ended up having a great time.

The restaurant filled up beautifully, and we’re hopeful this turned into a strong fundraiser for our Mzansi players.

Thank you to everyone who came out to support Helderberg Chess Club and for Waterstone Spur who hosted this! 👏♟️
