♟️ Triggerfish Tuesday #7 – No Rematch, Hot Air & Hospital Miracles
This Tuesday, Sven waited.
And waited.
And waited some more.
But Tebogo never showed up. The long-awaited rematch of last week’s legendary stalemate was officially cancelled by fate. Now poor Sven has to live indefinitely with “½” haunting his rating. He even asked hopefully at one point,
“Isn’t that other guy coming tonight?”
He didn’t — but the Clever People were there, and the Hockey Goalie Guy joined in on a multi-board simul against Sven. Big mistake. Sven was in full beast mode and crushed every single one of them, one polite “checkmate” at a time.
Owen made a return appearance, proudly bringing along his daughter Sayde, who’d recently been in hospital. Whatever they gave her worked wonders — she came in swinging, beating Naomi in a rock-solid endgame and making Charlie sweat bullets. For most of the game, Sayde was two pieces up, until Charlie pulled off one of his trademark sneak attacks to steal victory at the last moment.
Feraydo, seeing Naomi’s tragic endgame against Sayde, took pity and let her attack his kingside in their first game. That mercy was short-lived — in the rematch, he snapped up her hanging knight and dismantled her position like a man who’d learned his lesson.
Clive didn’t have much luck either — he started off in Sven’s simul, then ran into Reggie, who despite sporting a bandaged finger, remains completely undefeated. He took out Clive and Morné, earning whispers that he may have gone to the same hospital as Sayde for his “power-up treatment.”
Meanwhile, Charlie decided it was way too hot to play chess indoors and lured his opponents outside — purely for “fresh air” (and a smoke). He found a kindred spirit in Hockey Goalie Guy and immediately declared that from now on, he’ll only play the smokers.
Good luck with that, Charlie. May your openings be sharp, and your cigarettes unlit during checkmate. 😎
