🐉 Heiko’s Big Chess Challenge Conquers Gordon’s Bay Library! 🐉
The call went out, and the U7 heroes answered! On Saturday at Gordon’s Bay Library, Heiko Etzebeth’s Big Chess Challenge brought a wave of excitement, strategy, and playful rivalry.
Heiko showed why he’s a formidable opponent, claiming victories over Cayden Poole (U8), Zoey de Wet (U7), Dylan Raaths, and Trinity Izaacs (U8). Lila de Wet (U7) gave him a tricky battle, while Cullen Beukes (U8) handed him a well-earned defeat.
Newcomer Alex Joubert (U12) made waves by refusing to play Heiko after seeing Joanna Gedult (U8) give him a tough challenge earlier—but Heiko is already plotting his next moves. His sights are now set on Alex, Daniel Raaths, the Beaumont girls Emma and Sophia, and the remaining U7 players of Gordon’s Bay: Adam Erasmus and Tyler Cloete.
Heiko said the day “felt like it was his birthday”—and with the cheers, challenges, and victories, it was easy to see why. The atmosphere was electric, with smiles, courage, and creative chess moves on full display. Heiko’s challenge proved one thing: whether you’re U7 or U12, there’s always room for fun, learning, and a little friendly competition!
