Triggerfish Tuesday: Rain Credits, Patio Battles & The Great Chip Tragedy
This past Tuesday came hot on the heels of proper rain – which, according to Charlie’s personal attendance policy, absolutely counts. So naturally, Charlie was there in all his glory.
We were also graced by the presence of Alex Guo, one of Sven’s favourite students. Whenever Alex shows up, Sven transforms into a walking PGN archive. Alex immediately requested a full replay of Sven’s games from the Cape of Good Hope Open, where Sven secured second place. Having memorised most of them (obviously), Sven was more than ready to perform the live re-enactment.
Meanwhile, Jordan drew the short straw and was dragged outside by Charlie for patio chess. The air still carried that post-rain drama. The games were intense.
At one point, Jordan casually demonstrated a “new trick” to Charlie: touch a piece you’re considering and calmly say, “Adjust,” instead of committing to it — neatly bypassing touch-move panic. Charlie was astonished.
He had never seen such wizardry.
Jordan gently explained that this is, in fact, standard tournament procedure.
Charlie remained deeply impressed anyway.
Inside, Naomi was busy logging games through the app again, rallying players to join the leaderboard and make things official.
And speaking of the leaderboard…
Thanks to more sheer persistence than an overwhelming win rate, Naomi is currently sitting at the top. Yes… volume works. Right behind her? Sven… and also Sven. Password amnesia has resulted in two active accounts, both aggressively competing for podium space.

Which means it is possible to lead the standings. But we desperately need more people to join and help in this noble quest to prevent Sven from finishing second to himself.
Reggie was there, steady as ever.
Then — surprise appearance — Gerrit Meiboom showed up. A seriously strong player we rarely see these days. Apparently retirement planning has quadrupled his workload instead of reducing it, but this week his wife suggested he “get out of the house,” and thankfully he chose Triggerfish and chessboards. He played some excellent games against Reggie and squeezed in a fast blitz against a very in-form Sven.
Speaking of Sven – at one point he was enjoying a burger, which triggered something unexpected: Jordan developed an urgent craving for chips. He politely asked whether Sven might consider sponsoring this noble cause. Sven was unmoved.
After hearing the word “chips” approximately 47 times, Naomi was eventually hypnotised into partial compliance and told Jordan he could go order some to share. Tragically, this permission came at the exact moment the kitchen was closing.
No chips.
Not this week.
Quick Summary
- Rain = automatic Charlie attendance
- Sven replayed half the Cape of Good Hope Open from memory
- Charlie discovered the word “adjust” and was amazed
- Naomi leads the leaderboard (mostly by refusing to stop playing)
- Sven is chasing himself in second place
- Gerrit escaped work for chess
- Jordan fought bravely for chips
- The kitchen won
Another perfectly balanced Triggerfish Tuesday. ♟️🍔🍟
