Helderberg Chess Club Terms and Conditions
Last Updated: 14 July 2025
1. Acceptance of Terms
By using the Helderberg Chess Club website or participating in any of our activities, you agree to follow these Terms and Conditions. If you do not agree, please do not use the website or register for membership.
2. Membership & Fees
Membership is paid annually. The fee is R200 for the first player and R150 for each additional family member. All payments are made through PayFast. No refunds are issued once payment is received.
3. Member Responsibilities
All responsibilities, including attendance at events and training, lie with the parent or player. While regular attendance is encouraged for development, it is not mandatory and members will not be penalized for absence.
Unless otherwise stated, parents or guardians should be available during club events. We do not provide child-minding or daycare services.
4. Code of Conduct
All members and parents agree to:
- Behave respectfully and courteously toward others
- Represent Helderberg Chess Club with pride and wear club colours where appropriate
- Follow official chess rules and uphold good sportsmanship
- Refrain from bullying, harassment, or disruptive behaviour
5. Events, Tournaments & Leagues
Members must sign up separately for club-organized events, leagues, and tournaments — many of which have entry criteria or additional fees. Late entries may incur additional charges.
By signing up for membership, you agree to allow us to request permission to use your name or photograph in newsletters, team lists, or promotional materials. You can opt out at any time.
6. Bookings & Cancellations
Event bookings and cancellations can be made online through our website. Please pay attention to published deadlines. We reserve the right to charge a late fee for tournament entries submitted after closing dates.
7. Payments
All payments must be made using PayFast through our secure checkout system. No other payment methods are accepted at this time.
8. Website Use & Member Accounts
Registered users can create accounts to access member features and submit event entries. Blog comments and other user content are moderated before being published. We reserve the right to edit or remove inappropriate submissions.
9. Intellectual Property
All website content (including text, logos, images, and downloadable materials) belongs to Helderberg Chess Club or its content providers. You may not reproduce or distribute this content without permission.
10. Limitation of Liability
Helderberg Chess Club, its volunteers, and its affiliates are not responsible for any injuries, lost property, or delays that occur during club activities or events. Participation is at your own risk.
All coaches, volunteers, or event leaders are expected to have appropriate clearance and background checks.
11. Disclaimer of Warranties
We provide the website and its content “as is” without warranties of any kind. We do not guarantee that the website will always be available or error-free.
12. Governing Law
These Terms and Conditions are governed by the laws of South Africa. Any disputes shall be handled in accordance with South African law.
