Helderberg Teams Shine in Cape Town League Round 7 and 8
Saturday, 13 September 2025
The Cape Town League served up a packed Saturday as both the Helderberg A and B teams powered through two tough rounds – and walked away with maximum points.

Round 7
Helderberg B struck first against Kraaifontein D, with early victories from Eli and Daniël Cilliers putting the side 2–0 up. Momentum stayed firmly in their corner as Etienne and Ben sealed the match with back-to-back wins, pushing the score to 4–0. Kraaifontein fought back with two wins late in the round, but it was too little too late – Helderberg B claimed a convincing 4–2 victory.
Meanwhile, the Helderberg A team was locked in a tense battle against Observatory B. Every board went deep into the session, but the patience paid off. After almost three hours of play, Helderberg A secured a 4–2 win to close out Round 7 with both teams victorious.

Round 8
The afternoon round saw Helderberg A face Mitchells Plain A, while Helderberg B took on Crossroads B.
The A team struck fast: Aleks and Aldrich delivered early wins to hand Helderberg a 2–0 advantage. Soon after, Martin and Daniel extended the lead to 4–0, and Sven made it 5–0. On board 2, Dan capped off the performance with a final victory, completing a 6–0 clean sweep.
The B team’s match was tighter. Ben scored a win, while Calem fell, leaving the score balanced at 1–1. Daniël Cilliers put Helderberg ahead again, and Eli held a crucial draw. Naomi then converted her game, pushing the lead to 3–1. Etienne wrapped up with another draw to secure the B team’s 4–2 win – their second of the day.

League Standings
With these results, Helderberg A remain solidly in first place in the C Division, while Helderberg B have now secured first place in the D Division. If both teams can maintain a top-three finish through the final rounds, they will earn promotion to higher divisions in next year’s league – a massive step forward for the club.
It was a day of grit, focus, and team spirit.
