Helderberg Chess Club Crowned Champions in Cape Town Club League Finals
The 2025 Cape Town Chess Senior League concluded in style at Northlink College Tygerberg Campus, where Helderberg Chess Club’s A and B teams both secured promotion after dominant performances in Round 11.

A Team – Champions of the C Division

Helderberg A went into their clash against Elsies River B determined to finish strong. Early wins by Daniel Frank and Martin set the tone, putting the team 2–0 ahead. Alex extended the lead to 3–0, before Aldrich joined the scoresheet to seal the match. The momentum never stopped, and the A team powered through to a flawless 6–0 clean sweep.
This emphatic victory crowned Helderberg A as C Division Champions, earning them promotion to the B Division next season.
Standout Performances (C Division):
- 🥇 Sven Martz – best performing player in the division with a perfect 11/11
- 🥈 Shaun Temmers – 2nd best overall
- 🏅 Daniel Frank – 5th best performing player in the division
B Team – Champions of the D Division

The Helderberg B team faced Stellenbosch D in their final showdown. Ben struck first to give the side a 1–0 lead, followed by crucial wins from Eli and Etienne to push the score to 3–1. Owen sealed the deal, making it 4–1 while Daniël Cilliers fought on in the last game.
The final result: Helderberg B 4–2 Stellenbosch D. With this win, the B team secured 1st place in the D Division and promotion to the C Division for 2026.

- 🥇 Sarr Eliman – best performing player in the division with an incredible 9½/10
- 🥉 Ben Klopper – 3rd best performing player in the division
A Historic Season for Helderberg

Both teams not only topped their divisions but also secured back-to-back promotions—a rare feat that highlights the club’s growth and determination.
